Vision for my work

From an early age, I have been deeply interested in the lives, rights, and welfare of children and young people. Throughout my studies and professional career, my work has consistently gravitated toward issues affecting their well-being and development. As a lawyer, I worked for several years in the field of family law. Later, during my studies in public health, my focus became even more firmly centered on children and adolescents, including involvement in projects related to prenatal screening and the ethical questions it raises. In my work at the municipal level, matters concerning children and young people again came to the forefront— particularly education and prevention, as well as issues concerning people with disabilities. Throughout these roles, my guiding principle has been that all children and young people, regardless of their social circumstances or personal backgrounds, should have genuine opportunities to thrive.

My master’s and doctoral studies in education were a deliberate step toward dedicating my professional efforts fully to scholarship and practice addressing issues concerning children and young people.

My teaching and research have focused on diverse aspects of children’s immediate environments that are linked to their well-being and long-term flourishing. The home, the school community, and their broader social environment lay the foundation, alongside the welfare systems that surround children and their families. In a world of constantly evolving challenges, it is equally important to attend to young people’s relationship with society in a broader sense and their capacity to participate in shaping it. I have therefore emphasized civic awareness and the active participation of young people, and the significance such participation holds both for their own development and for society as a whole.
